Sigma were proud to host the Labour Party Diwali event on Wednesday 6th November 2013, held at the party headquarters in Brewer’s Green, London. This was the second time such an event has been staged by Sigma and the sizeable conference room was jam packed with friends, invited guests and party faithfuls. After the initial greetings and welcome by Claire Ward, there followed a traditional Diwali lamp lighting ceremony by Ed Milliband, with the usual blessings chanted by the Hindu priest. Dr Bharat Shah, Sigma’s MD, made a short welcoming speech and thanked all the guests with particular reference to the asian pharmaceutical community, whose contribution was acknowledged. Following this, Ed Milliband gave a short talk on the importance of celebrating ethnic diversity and the huge contribution made by Britain’s asians, in all walks of life. He made particular reference to the ‘good people of the land’ in the face of difficulties and challenges being faced by so many who are not native ‘Brits’. This was very significant, as Ed Milliband hails from an immigrant background himself. The evening was well organised with many photo opportunities with the Labour Party leader and many were able to grab a moment of Ed’s time in the midst of his busy schedule. The growing success of this Diwali event bodes well for many more years to come.
